Your response to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the soon coming wrath of God is to repent of your sins and turn your life completely towards God. When God grants repentance, He removes the guilt of sin in your life.

Mk. 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Lk. 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

All sin offends God, so repentance is an act that is towards God to seek forgiveness and remission of sin.

Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. |

Repentance is a gift of God. All have sinned and are unworthy to receive glory of God (Ro. 3.23); therefore by His Grace, God freely gives sinners repentance unto salvation and to receive eternal life. God calls sinners for salvation and gives them an opportunity to repent of their sins and be converted.

2 Tim. 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Acts 5:31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Repentance is poured out upon the heart of sinners whom God calls.
| |
| |
Mk. 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

All men will not receive repentance though they try, therefore it is important to pursue the forgiveness of God and embrace Him when you are aware of your sins, and be Godly sorrowful. He calls sinners everywhere to repent; however, God's wrath will not always linger.

Lk. 15:7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
2 Pet. 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. |

You know that God has forgiven you and granted you repentance when:
| |
| |
Your sorrow is in a godly manner, and you seek repentance
2 Cor. 7:9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
You turn from the world and sin without being sorry for the things you left in the world.
You are careful about the things you have done and how it will affect your relationship with God (2 Cor. 7:11).
You want to be forgiven by God, and be cleared of all wrongdoing by God and from your conscience (2 Cor. 7:11).
You are uneasy, troubled and angered by things that you once enjoyed doing; or when your spirit is vexed by ungodly acts committed by others (2 Cor. 7:11).
Your heart is fearful of the consequences of sin, and at the thought of committing sin, and of being associated with those that are ungodly (2 Cor. 7:11).
You are not satisfied just being forgiven of sin, but when you have a burning desire in your spirit to live a life totally opposite from your sin (2 Cor. 7:11).
You are not satisfied that God forgave and removed your sin, but you want to make up for the times you should have pleased God. You want to show Him how much you love Him and are sorry that you went such a long time without Him as your God (2 Cor. 7:11).
You try to repay God for the sins you've committed by devoting yourself to Him, and denying yourself through fasting, prayer, consecration, worship and praise.
2 Cor. 7:11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
You will be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus in water.
Every repented heart will seize the opportunity to be baptized in the water calling on the name of Jesus, who has the power of salvation. The operation that baptism works on a believer is not effective without repentance and faith. The heart of man must be willing to surrender his heart and mind, and body, soul, and spirit through obedience unto God. This is part of the "process of decreasing:" When we humble ourselves and are obedient to the word of God, He will exalt us in the spirit.
Once a soul has turned from sin and received water baptism, God promised to fill that praying soul with His spirit, "to abide in the believer."
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Matt. 3:11
The evidence of repentance will be seen in the life of a believer. Repentance is a catalyst to a life of godliness, holiness, and peace with God. Repentance will cause the believer to produce spiritual fruit unto God, and in His kingdom.
An individual who recognizes he or she is in a sinful condition, and pours out their sorrow unto God, seeking His forgiveness, has a heart ready to receive God. Because God deals with the heart of man to save the soul, there is great joy in heaven when an individual repents.
